Blackwood Mercery
Lifestyle Branding
Collaborators: John Sperandeo & Wednesday Trotto
Faced with the task of using ‘guerilla marketing’ to make an obscure accessory popular again, John, Wednesday and I decided to ignite the rebirth of the ascot. I proposed that we create a store to sell these specific ascots, allowing our branding venture to seem more real. Inspired by the current resurgence of considerate menswear, we developed Blackwood Mercery, a fine accessories outpost in the Red Hook neighborhood of Brooklyn. Based on the persona of the idealized customer, we created logos and instructional systems, and made the aesthetic tangible with laser-cut memorable wooden business cards, social networking initiatives and guerilla flyers.
What Kind Of World
Infographic / Call to Action
Collaborators: Bryan Connor, Ann Liu, and Isabel Uria
Product of the inaugural Visualization Marathon at Eyebeam, NYC.
Received: Honorable Mention
Over the course of 24 hours, a hand-selected team of MICA students competed against collegiate designers from around the country (and against the clock) to create infographics about biodiversity. We examined hundreds of spreadsheets and pored over piles and piles of data in order to create a compelling argument and visual call to action to save the globe. You can read my recap of the marathon here or Bryan's here.
Greensboro, Alabama
Documentaiton of week-long Project M Design Blitz in Greensboro, AL.
Collaborators: Spring
2010 Blitzers
This newsprint publication is the documentation of an “alternative spring break” spent totally immersed in the community of Greensboro, Alabama. We spent the week learning about the town, and then creatively addressed important situations at hand using design as a means of social change. I contributed much of the lettering within the publication. The entire trip was heavily documented, see our Flickr group for more!
Your Eyes Are Beautiful
Commission
Collaborators: Becky Slogeris, Rivka Khanin, and Michelle Flemming
Client: The Maryland Opthometric Association
My team created a series of billboards promoting eye safety for the Maryland Optometric Association. Becky and I proposed the two main methods of communication (I suggested the bold color and simple text, and Becky suggested the pick up lines.) Rivkah and Michelle prepared the billboards for production and contributed to aesthetic choices.
